It’s been about what? 3–4 years of admiring the HNG interns and wanting to own that T-shirt of honour. Today, I am completing my first task as an HNG intern. It’s been roughly 15 months since I wrote my first ‘Hello World’, I am excited.

I have never worked in a team or done anything really challenging so my first goal in this internship would be to be challenged. I have heard a lot of tales on team work and how good or bad results can be depending on the team, and I am looking forward to experiencing all that during this internship. And to be affilated to such a strong community like https://training.zuri.team is definitely something any programmer would want to be able to brag about.

There are ceratin coding tricks that I have heard cannot be learnt by coding alone, so you need a team. I want to grasp all those concepts, all the tricks, the fun momemts, the learning curves, everything. And most of all, I want to be an HNG finalist and getting that t-shirt would mean so much to me.

During the course of this internship, I would be on the front-end track and I would focus on Javascript. Learning to code has not been a bed of roses, it’s been happiness and a lot of tears, a whole lot of frustration too, but it’s always been rewarding in the end. There were a couple of tutorials that helped me in my journeya and I would be sharing some of them.

One of the most important things to learn how to use to make life as a developer easier is Git, Git is a version control tool that helps you with your day to day activities a s a developer. Here is a link to a full on git and github tutorial : https://inf-paces-school.netlify.app/courses/git.html. I found this link exceptionally helpful in learning how to use git and git-hub.

If you are like me and would want to focus on front-end development, you would need to start with HTML. HTML is the building block for front-end development, it gives semantic and structural meaning to a web page. Here is a really nice tutorial that can get you on your way with using HTML: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB1O30fR-EE. After playing around with learning HTML, you would definitely want to check out the use of CSS, it is an ineveitable part of web development.

Moving on to more advanced concepts like actual programming languages, it is my advice that you start out with JavaScript and no, it has nothing to do with Java. Javascript is the language of the web, especially indisposable for front end development. Here is a fanatastic tutorial that takes you through the basics and core concepts of the language: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkZNo7MFNFg.

Additionally, as your work gets more advanced, you would need to work with a team of designers and so understanding how to use and navigate around Figma becomes essential. Here is a link to get you started on the basics of using Figma: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6rQFP9zCAM

I am looking forward to what the next 8 weeks would hold. I also hope that you have been able to find some sort of guide from reading this if you are a total beginner. As a bonus point, I would be adding a link that covers a full range of topics to this post. Check out https://inf-paces-school.netlify.app/courses for more course options and find out your area of interest.
